Three Charged in Alleged Georgia School Attack Plot; District Clarifies Evidence
By Taylor Bennett. Nov 4, 2026
An FBI warning about threatening social-media posts led to three arrests in an alleged plot to attack Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia. As details from arrest warrants became public, school leaders moved to correct one alarming claim: the suspects had not accessed the school’s protected floor plans, the superintendent said.
Shane Keith Taylor, 17, Michael Brandon Terry, 21, and an unidentified juvenile were charged with conspiracy to commit murder. The juvenile also faces a charge connected to disrupting or interfering with school operations, according to police.
Investigators said the group had discussed weapons and preparations for an attack during the next school year. Police reported collecting guns, ammunition and electronic devices and said they had identified no continuing threat to the high school or other schools in the county.
Online Posts Triggered the Investigation
The FBI identified threatening posts and alerted Cherokee County school police, who contacted Canton police. Investigators identified a juvenile in Canton as connected to the threats and made an arrest on October 20, according to Associated Press reporting.
Taylor, of Metter, Georgia, and Terry, of Chatsworth, California, were arrested October 23. Authorities had not publicly explained how all three knew one another or what connection Terry had to Georgia.
The warrants allege an agreement to provide weapons and discussions of clothing and protective equipment. Investigators identified August 20, 2027, as the proposed attack date. Those descriptions are allegations in the criminal filings, not findings reached after a trial.
WSB-TV reported that the juvenile was a former student. Police did not publicly release the juvenile’s name or age in the AP account.
Superintendent Corrects Floor-Plan Reports
The arrest warrants referred to “acquiring a floor plan” of Cherokee High School. That wording appeared in early coverage of the case and prompted questions about whether confidential security information had been compromised.
Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis said she followed up with Canton police and was told the material consisted of publicly available images, not the school’s actual protected plans, WSB-TV reported October 30.
“The school’s floor plans which are protected documents in the State of Georgia have not been - and never were - accessed,” she said.
The clarification did not withdraw the conspiracy allegations. It addressed the nature of one category of material described in the warrants and the district’s control of confidential documents.
Davis also said the school board focused its Thursday meeting on safety and security. In an earlier message reported by the AP, she acknowledged families’ distress while crediting coordination among law enforcement agencies with disrupting the alleged plan.
Court Proceedings Remain Ahead
Taylor, who is considered an adult under Georgia criminal law, was being held without bond and had a preliminary hearing scheduled for November 13, according to the AP’s October 28 report. His attorney said he had just received the case and had no comment at that time.
Terry was awaiting transfer from California to Cherokee County. The AP reported that it was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney. Proceedings against the suspects remained pending in the subsequent reporting, while police said the investigation was still active.
